UFC 248 Opening Odds

Yoel Romero +160

Weili Zhang -130
Joanna Jedrzejczyk +100
On Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero:
“The -185 opener that was kind of floating around out there, I thought it was appropriately set but the betting action early on came in on Adesanya and obviously bet him up. Right now the guy’s popularity is at an all-time high. I’m not really that surprised by it. I think a lot of people are kind of putting him in that invincible category that Anderson Silva was once at. But I’ll tell you what I think. People are kind of disrespecting Romero a little bit. You know how fond I am of Adesanya, the guy made me a ton of money the last time out. The guy’s elite, no doubt about it. But this matchup scares me a little bit because Romero is one of those types of fighters that you cannot sleep on. He’s explosive, he definitely has knockout power, he brings the wrestling. A lot of people aren’t on the level of wrestling that Romero brings to the table a lot of the times as well. So there’s a lot to factor into this fight. My personal opening line is going to be a little bit lower than the current market price of about -220 or -230 that’s out there. I’m going to go -200 flat and my comeback is going to be +160. So again I think 2-to-1 is about ballpark for a public number and I think it will draw two-way action, but I do expect the fight to close under 2-to-1, so I’m not going to give as much plus-money on Romero.”
On Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk:
“I just hit Westgate Superbook in Vegas and I had to take JJ at +140 because that line will not be there on fight day. I think it will be closer to a Pick ’em by fight day. My personal opinion public line is Zhang -130 and JJ +100 (even money). I’m not going to give plus money away on JJ. I’m going to be a little bit lower than the market price on this one as well. And I do think that people are underestimating JJ slightly. I know Zhang has looked phenomenal, I mean she deserves to be champ right now, she deserves the spotlight and I’m happy for her as well. She’s only getting better so this is going to be a classic fight, I think it’s going to be awesome. But if you can gobble up that plus money early, it doesn’t matter. In my opinion whether JJ is the right side or not, I’m talking about getting the +140 that probably won’t be there by fight time. So it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to be on JJ at this point on, I just think that line value at +140 won’t be there, so I grabbed it.”
