Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 313 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 313 sees UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira take on Magomed Ankalaev. Pereira has won his last five fights in a row, and he is coming off an incredible comeback TKO win over Khalil Rountree Jr. As for Ankalaev, he has won his last two fights by knockout heading into this bout. Ankalaev has deserved to fight for the belt for a very long time, and this should be an excellent fight for as long as it lasts. The bookies opened up Ankalaev as the favorite, but the odds have since tightened up, and now it’s essentially a Pick ’em. Given how talented both fighters are, the Pick ’em odds seem more accurate for this bout.
- Also on the card is a lightweight bout between Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev. Gaethje was supposed to fight Dan Hooker, but after Hooker pulled out, Fiziev stepped in on 10 days’ notice to take the fight. Gaethje and Fiziev, of course, fought in 2023, and Gaethje won by majority decision. Despite Fiziev taking a long injury layoff and losing the first fight, however, the oddsmakers opened him up as a slight favorite, giving him plenty of respect here as he looks to exact revenge on Gaethje in this rematch.
