Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 314 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 314, we have the vacant UFC featherweight title on the line between former champ Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes. Volkanovski has lost three of his last four fights, but the losses came against lightweight champ Islam Makhachev and the former featherweight champ Ilia Topuria. As for Lopes, he has won his last five fights since losing his debut to Movsar Evloev. This vacant title fight should be incredible as it features two of the best fighters in the weight class. The oddsmakers opened Volkanovski as a small favorite, and this line should stay relatively close.
- In the co-main event, we have a five-round lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett. Chandler has lost four of his last five fights, but he has been fighting the best fighters in the world, and you can’t take too much away from losing to elite talent. As for Pimblett, he has won his last six fights in a row and is undefeated since he joined the UFC in 2021. While Pimblett has looked great in the UFC, he has not been fighting the elite opposition that Chandler has, and so it makes sense that Chandler opened up as a small betting favorite.
