Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 310 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 310 is a flyweight title fight between champion Alexandre Pantoja and challenger Kai Asakura. Pantoja has won his last six fights in a row, including winning the flyweight belt against Brandon Moreno last year and then defending it twice, against Brandon Royval and Steve Erceg. He will now look to defend his title successfully for a third time in a row when he takes on the UFC newcomer Asakura, who is getting a title shot in his UFC debut, a rarity in the promotion. Asakura comes to the UFC from RIZIN, where he won his last two fights, including a knockout win over Juan Archuleta in his last outing to capture the bantamweight belt. Asakura has big-time KO power, but Pantoja is far more proven in the UFC and is more proven as a flyweight, so it makes sense that he is a big favorite in this fight.
- Also on the card is a five-round co-main event between welterweight contenders Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry. Rakhmonov is a perfect 6-0 in the UFC and has finished all of his opponents, while Machado Garry is 8-0. While Machado Garry is certainly a talented fighter, Rakhmonov’s finishing streak means he has to be the favorite heading into this fight.
