Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Edmonton Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Edmonton is a key flyweight bout between top contenders Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi. Moreno is coming off a split decision upset loss to Brandon Royval earlier this year, which may have looked surprising at the time, but with Royval doing big things in the division, it doesn’t look so bad in hindsight. As for Albazi, he is 5-0 in the UFC but he has not fought in over a year, so he enters this bout with potential ring rust. Still, Albazi is a solid fighter, and he might just be a live dog in this bout.
- In the co-main event, we have a five-round women’s flyweight bout between Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas. Blanchfield won her first six fights in the UFC before losing a clear decision to Manon Fiorot in her last outing. As for Namajunas, after moving up to flyweight she lost to Fiorot before picking up clear decision wins over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez. This should be a very competitive fight, and the betting odds are tight for a reason. Blanchfield is a slight betting favorite here, likely due to superior grappling, but Namajunas is a tough out.
