Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 99 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 99 sees Anthony Hernandez fight Michel Pereira in a five-round middleweight main event. Hernandez has won five straight fights and has not lost in over four years. As for Pereira, he has won eight straight fights and has a perfect 3-0 record as a middleweight. This is a tricky fight to call as fighters have been red hot as of late and they are both fighters you generally want to bet on. That being said, Hernandez has superior cardio, and that could come in handy given this is a five-round fight.
- The co-main event sees Rob Font take on Kyler Phillips. Font has lost his last two fights and four of his last five overall as he appears to have hit the decline phase of his MMA career. He has been an elite bantamweight for many years, but it looks like he is finally nearing the end of being a contender, though it’s difficult to say as his opponents have been elite for the most part. As for Phillips, he has three straight fights and he is 6-1 overall in the UFC. Given Phillips is the younger, more dynamic fighter with the more well-rounded game and more dangerous striking, you have to lean toward Phillips to get the win here.
