Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 75:
- This week’s edition of Dana White’s Contender Series features a heavyweight bout between Artem Vakhitov and Islem Masraf. Vakhitov is just 2-1 in MMA, but he is a former kickboxer who holds a win over Alex Pereira in that sport. As we all know by now, these kickboxers have performed very well in the UFC and it would be a nice boost to the heavyweight division if Vakhitov turned out to be a good prospect. In this fight, he takes on Masraf who is 3-0 as a pro including a bizarre head kick knockout win in the PFL in his last fight. Both guys are intriguing prospects since they both have good striking skills, but with the hype behind Vakhitov due to his kickboxing background and previous win over Pereira, he is a massive favorite here.
- Also on the card is a lightweight bout between Kody Steele and Chasen Blair. Steele’s fight on DWCS earlier this year was scratched at the last second when his opponent pulled out due to having anxiety, so he gets another chance to earn a UFC contract in this bout. As for Blair, he comes to the UFC after having competed in Cage Warriors his whole career. While Bair is a decent prospect, Steele is on the fast track to the UFC and he is a big favorite to win this fight.
