Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Denver Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Denver sees Rose Namajunas take on Tracy Cortez at women’s flyweight. Cortez is coming in on short notice, filling in for Mayce Barber, who is ill. Namajunas is coming off a decision win over Amanda Ribas in her last fight which snapped a two-fight losing skid. As for Cortez, she has won her last five fights in a row in the UFC to get this top 15 opponent. Still, Namajunas is far more proven and she should be be able to win this fight.
- The co-main event of UFC Denver sees Santiago Ponzinibbio take on Muslim Salikhov in a striker’s delight at 170 lbs. Ponzinibbio has lost three of his last four fights and is getting up there in age at 37, but he is still a dangerous striker who can score the occasional knockout. As for Salikhov, he is also coming off three losses in his last four fights and was finished by punches in his last outing. Although Salikhov is an excellent striker in his own right, he is now 40 and appears to be in the decline phase of his career. Ponzinibbio should be able to win this fight, and he is the favorite for a reason.
