Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 88 Opening Odds:
- The main event is a five-round heavyweight bout between Tai Tuivasa and Marcin Tybura. Tuivasa has lost three straight fights heading into this bout and he just has not looked like the slugger that was quickly climbing up the heavyweight ranks a few years ago. As for Tybura, he was brutally knocked out by interim champ Tom Aspinall in his last fight, but he has ad more success overall lately than Tybura has. Thi is a close striker vs. grappler fight on paper, and the oddsmakers opened it as a near Pick ’em due to the stylistic clash.
- The co-main event of UFC Vegas 88 sees Bryan Battle fight Ange Loosa at welterweight. Battle won TUF and he has looked great in the UFC for the most part since then, showing off skills on both the floor and the mat. Loosa came to the UFC from Dana White’s Contender Series and he has also done well so far in the UFC, although he likely lacks the high upside that Battle has. Still, this is a competitive fight on paper, and the oddsmakers only opened up Battle as a small favorite to win this fight.
