Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 89 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 89 sees Rose Namajunas return to the Octagon against Amanda Ribas. Namajunas has not fought since she lost a decision to Manon Fiorot last year, and she has lost her last two fights after losing to Carla Esparza before that. Still, she is a former UFC champion and you shouldn’t write her off so soon. As for Ribas, she is coming off a great knockout win over Luana Pinheiro that got her back in the win column after Maycee Barber knocked her out. While Ribas is a solid fighter, Namajunas is one of the best women’s fighters to ever step into the Octagon, and she opened up as the betting favorite for this fight.
- The co-main event sees Karl Williams take on Justin Tafa in a grappler vs. striker heavyweight battle. Williams has won both of his UFC fights so far and has shown solid wrestling skills, while Tafa has gone unbeaten over his last four fights, scoring several knockout wins during that stretch. Tafa has a puncher’s chance in this fight but if Williams can get this fight down to the mat he should be able to grind this fight out.
