Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 299 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 299 sees a rematch between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera, this time for the UFC bantamweight title. These two fighters met four years ago, with Vera winning that fight by TKO after O’Malley injured his ankle in the first round. Four years later, they meet again, only this time O’Malley is the champion after having not long a fight since then. Both of these fighters are always exciting and they match up very well against each other in terms of what should be a stylistically fun fight. That being said, the bookies opened up O’Malley as the favorite for this rematch, likely due to the fact he has improved so much since the first fight.
- Also on the card is a five-round lightweight co-main event between Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis. Poirier is coming off a brutal KO loss to Justin Gaethje but he remains one of the very best lightweights in the sport. As for BSD, he has looked amazing since moving down to 155 lbs, but this is a big step up in competition. Despite that, the bookies opened up BSD as the favorite here for this big fight.
