Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Cage Warriors 161:
- The main event of CWFC 161 is a lightweight bout between Paul Hughes and Jan Quaeyhaegens. Hughes has won his last three fights in a row which includes a decision win over current UFC fighter Morgan Charriere. As for Quaeyhaegens, he is coming off five straight wins and has been looking phenomenal as of late. On paper, this looks like a very exciting fight between two fighters who could be UFC-bound with a win in this bout. Hughes has more experience against higher-level competition, so it makes sense that he’s favored.
- Also on the card is a lightweight bout between former UFC fighter Mason Jones and Yann Liasse. Jones went 1-2, 1 NC overall in the UFC before being released. Since then, he has re-signed with Cage Warriors and he won his return fight to the promotion by knockout. As for Liasse, he was finished by George Hardwick in his last fight but he had been unbeaten in his six fights before that. Again, this looks like an exciting fight on paper, but it’s hard not to go with Jones in this fight just due to the fact that he has so much experience fighting high-level competition in the UFC, hence why he is a big favorite here.
