Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 73 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 73 features a five-round women’s strawweight bout between Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill. Dern is coming off of a majority decision loss to Yan Xiaonan, which followed a split decision win over Tecia Torres before that. As for Hill, she has won her last two fights in a row against Emily Ducote and Loopy Godinez, who coincidentally both fight each other on this card. As for the Dern vs. Hill fight, this is a striker vs. grappler bout, and in situations like that, you would often favor the grappler, hence Dern opening up as the favorite.
- As for the co-main event, it’s a middleweight bout between Anthony Hernandez and Edmen Shahbazyan. Hernandez has looked great as of late, having won his last three fights in a row including a submission win over Marc-Andre Barriault in his last outing. As for Shahbazyan, he recently snapped a three-fight losing skid with a big knockout win over Dalcha Lungiambula. Overall, Hernandez has been in far sharper form as of late, so it makes sense that he is the one favored to win this fight, although Shahbazyan certainly has the potential to knock him out.
