Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 296:
- The main event of Bellator 296, Gegard Mousasi takes on Fabian Edwards in a middleweight bout. Mousasi lost his belt to Johnny Eblen in his last fight, a loss that snapped a four-fight winning streak for him. As for Edwards, he has won his last two fights, including a brutal knockout win over Lyoto Machida. Although Edwards is a solid fighter, Mousasi is a legend, and despite losing to Eblen, Mousasi opened up as a huge betting favorite for this fight.
- In the co-main event, Mansour Barnaoui takes on Brent Primus. Barnaoui has won his last eight fights in a row, including a big win over Adam Piccolotti in his Bellator debut last year. As for Primus, the former champion has lost two of his last three fights. Although Primus is a former champion, Barnaoui is the better fighter at this point in time and deserves to be favored here. It would be pretty surprising to see him lose, and there might be some good value on him at this opening number for a bet.
