Here are my quick thoughts on the PFL 2023: Week 2:
- The women’s featherweights kick off this year’s tournament with a bout between Larissa Pacheco and Julia Budd. Pacheco has won her last six straight fights and she has looked incredible in PFL as she continues to make a run for another title here in her third season with the company. She lost to Kayla Harrison in the finals in her first PFL season, then upset the former champ to win the second season. There is a lot to like about Pacheco and if she can win another PFL season, she’ll clearly be one of women’s MMA’s top P4P figures right now. She takes on Budd, who is getting up there in age and who hasn’t looked in sharp form either.
- Also on the card are the heavyweights, and we will see former champ Bruno Cappelozza take on Matheus Scheffel. Cappelozza won the tournament in the first season and was poised to win in the second season but he was beaten by Scheffel to end his tournament hopes. Scheffel, meanwhile, lost the finals to Ante Delija. It only makes sense for Cappeloza and Scheffel to run things back, which they will do when they fight here at PFL 2 on Friday.
