Here are my quick thoughts on PFL Challenger Series 2023: Week 8:
- In lightweight action, Kendly St. Louis takes on Paulo Henrique. St. Louis has won his last five fights in a row and made his PFL debut earlier this year, winning his fight. He has been a pro since 2017 and has picked up a decent amount of experience since then against a solid level of competition. As for Henrique, he is coming off of a split decision loss in his PFL debut. He has been a pro since 2018 and while he does have quite a few finishes on his resume, he hasn’t been fighting great competition, if we are being honest. This is a close fight on a card full of them. St. Louis has fought better competition, but Henrique should make this competitive, hence the close opening odds.
- In a women’s featherweight bout, Evelyn Martins fights Jackie Cataline. Martins is only 20 years old and she has a 3-0 record in pro MMA since 2020. In her last bout, she picked up a win in her PFL debut by submission. As for Cataline, she began her MMA career in 2022 and is already 3-1 with a 1-1 record in PFL. Both fighters are pretty solid and the winner could be an interesting contender in a shallow PFL women’s featherweight field. The oddsmakers opened up this fight as a Pick ’em, but Martins has been getting the early money bet on her.
