Here are my quick thoughts on PFL Challenger Series 2023: Week 7:
- At light heavyweight, Impa Kasanganay takes on Osama Elseady. Since being cut by the UFC last year, Kasanganay has gone 1-1 with a loss in Eagle FC before bouncing back with a knockout win over Jared Gooden in XMMA. After previously fighting at both 170lbs and 185lbs, Kasanganay is now moving up to light heavyweight for this bout in PFL. As for Elseady, he previously competed for Desert Force and Brave CF. He has only fought once in the last five years, which was a knockout win that earned him a look from PFL. Kasanganay is the more proven fighter, so it makes sense he is favored here. That being said, he has lost several times as a favorite in the past, so you can’t completely count out Elseady from winning this bout.
- In the co-main event, Taylor Johnson faces off against Trey Williams. Johnson is a former Dana White’s Contender Series and Bellator fighter who is already 1-0 in PFL. If he wins this fight in an impressive fashion, he could potentially get a PFL deal. Williams, on the other hand, has fought for promotions such as World Series of Fighting (now PFL) and Cage Warriors. In his last fight, he picked up a win in CWFC to get a look from PFL. While Williams has some nice chokes, Johnson is the more well-rounded fighter and the clear favorite to win this fight.
