Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 289:
- Headling Bellator 289 is a five-round interim bantamweight title bout between Rafael Stots and Danny Sabatello, a fight that is also part of the 135lbs tournament. Stots is on a 10-fight win streak at the moment and he’s won all six of his fights in Bellator, including knocking out Juan Archuleta to win the interim bantamweight belt with champion Sergio Pettis injured. As for Sabatello, he’s on a seven-fight win streak and he’s won his last three fights in a row for Bellator. The oddsmakers opened this fight up as a Pick ’em and it’s a very close one on paper. Stots has the belt, but Sabatello’s wrestling means he can win any MMA fight.
- Also on the card is another bantamweight tournament bout, this time between Magomed Magomedov and Patchy Mix. Magomedov has won three of his four fights in Bellator, with his lone defeat in the promotion coming against Stots. Mix, on the other hand, is 5-1 overall in Bellator, including winning his last three fights in a row. Overall this should be another competitive bantamweight tournament bout between two well-rounded fighters. However, Magomedov opened up as a very slight favorite according to the oddsmakers.
