Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 61 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 61 sees Mackenzie Dern taking on Yan Xiaonan in a women’s strawweight bout set for five rounds. Dern is coming off of a big win over Tecia Torres in her last fight to bounce back after her loss to Marina Rodriguez before that. Speaking of Rodriguez Yan actually also lost to her in her last fight, so this is perfect matchmaking here. In fact, many believe that Yan actually should have gotten the nod over Rodriguez, which shows that she’s still one of the best in the weight class. With the grappling advantage, Dern is the favorite here, but Yan is an excellent striker and has a path to victory if this fight stays on the feet.
- Also on the card is a welterweight bout between Randy Brown and Francisco Trinaldo. Brown is coming off of three straight wins and in general, is one of the most underrated fighters in the division. As for Trinaldo, he is 44 years old but he is still coming off two straight wins. Overall, it’s a competitive fight but Brown should be favored considering the current age of Trinaldo.
