Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 56:
- The main event of this week’s Contender Series features top prospect Bo Nickal against Donovan Beard in a middleweight bout. Nickal smashed Zack Borrego in his DWCS last month, but UFC president Dana White passed on immediately signing him to a UFC contract. Instead, White has brought back Nickal for another DWCS bout, and he’ll take on the former CFFC middleweight champion Beard, who has won his last two fights. This is Nickal’s toughest test to date as a pro MMA fighter thus far, but at the same time, this is a fight that he should win. Nickal is one of the best prospects in the game today and he should be able to use his wrestling skills and nullify Beard, if not potentially show off his knockout power in this bout.
- Also on the card is a lightweight bout between Sam Patterson and Vinicius Cenci. Patterson is a former Brave CF standout who has won his last five straight fights. As for Cenci, he has won his last six fights in a row. Overall this appears to be a quality matchup between two prospects on the rise, but with Patterson fighting a higher level of competition, he’s the favorite here.
- Overall, it’s been a fun season of DWCS and these new fighters should fare well in the UFC.
