Here are my quick thoughts on the PFL 2022: Week 4:
- Headling this PFL card is another round of fights in the lightweight and light heavyweight tournament. In the lightweight tourney, Clay Collard takes on Alex Martinez in the featured bout. Collard, a former UFC fighter, is coming off of a great win over Jeremy Stephens in one of the better PFL fights so far this season. Last season, he picked up an upset win over former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis but lost a close decision to Raush Manfio, the eventual season winner. In this fight, Collard takes on Martinez, who is coming off of a win over another former UFC fighter in Stevie Ray. Martinez is definitely a solid fighter, but Collard should have the edge here in terms of striking volume, and that’s why he is the favorite here.
- As for the light heavyweight tournament, last season’s winner, Antonio Carlos Junior, returns against Bruce Souto. Junior is unbeaten over his last five fights, and in his most recent appearance, he submitted Delan Monte in 29 seconds. As for Souto, he was knocked out by Rob Wilkinson in his last PFL appearance. Although Souto is a good striker, Junior will have a massive edge when it comes to the ground game. It’s no surprise, then, to see Junior pegged as a huge favorite once again.
