Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 56 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 56 is a five-round heavyweight bout between top-10 ranked fighters Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Volkov is coming off of a quick submission loss to top prospect Tom Aspinall in his last fight, but prior to that, he was coming off of a win over Marcin Tybura. Ironically enough, Rozenstruik was actually scheduled to meet Tybura last month at UFC 273, but the fight was canceled at the last minute when Tybura got sick on fight day. Rozenstruik is also coming off of a loss, a decision defeat to top contender Curtis Blaydes, who coincidentally, is fighting Volkov’s last opponent Aspinall next. Both Volkov and Rozenstruik are top strikers with flawed ground games, so this should be an interesting fight to see. Either man could win by knockout, but the styles could also lead to a decision.
- The co-main event features top-15 featherweights Movsar Evloev and Dan Ige. Evloev is a perfect 5-0 in the UFC, albeit to unranked fighters. Ige, meanwhile, is coming off of two straight losses, but those fights were against top contenders Josh Emmett and The Korean Zombie. This should be a competitive fight, but Evloev is undefeated and enters as the betting favorite.
