Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 279:
- In the main event of Bellator 279, we have Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg taking on Arlene Blencowe in a rematch. These two met back in 2020, with Cyborg winning the fight by knockout. Since then, Cyborg has won two more fights by knockout, while Blencowe has bounced back with two straight wins to earn another title shot. Unfortunately for Blencowe, this is still a terrible matchup for her. Cyborg is the best women’s featherweight fighter in Bellator and she is still incredibly dominant and destructive inside the cage. This should be another knockout win for Cyborg, and she’s a massive favorite for that very reason.
- In the co-main event, the interim Bellator bantamweight title is on the line due to the injury to champion Sergio Pettis. The bantamweight tournament begins with Juan Archuleta taking on Raufeon Stots. Archuleta lost to Pettis in his last fight but he had won two straight prior to that. As for Stots, he has won his last nine fights in a row since his only career defeat to Merab Dvalishvili back in 2017. Since then, all he’s done is win fights. Archuleta is solid, but Stots is on a serious roll as of late and he opened up here as the favorite to win this interim belt.
