Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for LFA 129:
- The LFA championship is on the line when champion Thomas Petersen takes on Waldo Cortes-Acosta. This is an awesome fight between two top-level heavyweight prospects and I expect the winner to get the call to the UFC. Petersen is 5-0 with all of his wins coming by first-round stoppage. As for Cortes-Acosta, he is also 5-0 in MMA. I’ve always thought Petersen was a great prospect and I still think he is, but Cortes-Acosta could prove to be a live underdog in this fight. It’s a tough fight to call and either guy has the power to finish it.
- The co-main event is a flyweight bout between Carlos Mota and Matt Brown. Mota just fought for the LFA flyweight belt in his last fight and he lost in the fifth round to Charles Johnson. However, it was a great fight and it showed that Mota is one of the better flyweight prospects out there. At just 26, he has a long career ahead of him. Across from him in the Octagon this time is Brown. No, not *that* Matt Brown, this is a flyweight. He has actually been around for a long time and even has two wins over current UFC fighter John Castenada. That being said, he’s 40 years old and taking on a great prospect in Mota. This is Mota’s fight to lose here.
