Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Columbus Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Columbus is a five-round heavyweight bout between top-10 ranked contenders Curtis Blaydes and Chris Daukaus. Blaydes, the No. 4 ranked heavyweight, is coming off of a decision win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik to bounce back after an upset KO loss to Derrick Lewis the fight before that. Overall, Blaydes has won five of his last six fights and he has an excellent UFC record of 10-3, 1 NC dating back to 2016. As for Daukaus, he is the No. 8 ranked heavyweight in the UFC. He is coming off of a KO loss to Lewis in his last fight, which snapped a four-fight win streak inside the UFC, with all of those wins coming by knockout. Both Blaydes and Dauakus are top-10 heavyweights for a reason, but with Blaydes having the perceived wrestling advantage, it’s not surprising to see him as the favorite here.
- The co-main event is a women’s flyweight bout between Alexa Grasso and Joanne Wood. Grasso is coming off of back-to-back wins over Maycee Barber and Ji-Yeon Kim, while Wood has lost two straight fights to Taila Santos and Lauren Murphy. Both Grasso and Wood are strikers so fans should expect a standup fight here, one where Grasso opened as the favorite.
