Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC London Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC London is a five-round heavyweight bout between top-15 ranked heavyweights Alexander Volkov and Tom Aspinall. Volkov is the No. 6 ranked fighter in the division and he is coming off of a decision win over Marcin Tybura in his last fight. Overall, Volkov has won three of his last four fights. As for Aspinall, he is currently riding an eight-fight win streak and he is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC. These are two of the best heavyweights in the UFC, so this should be a very important fight as far as the rankings go. Volkov is more proven at the highest level of the sport, so it makes sense he opened as a small favorite. That being said, Aspinall is a stud himself, so it shouldn’t shock anyone if he ends up beating Volkov.
- The co-main event features Arnold Allen and Dan Hooker. Allen has been in the UFC since 2015 and he’s a perfect 8-0 since then. If he beats Hooker, he would likely be no more than one more win away from getting a title shot. As for Hooker, he is moving back down to 145lbs after losing three of his last four fights at lightweight. This should be a very interesting fight, but given Allen’s long winning streak dating back seven years now, he should be the favorite here.
