Here are my quick thoughts on the PFL Challenger Series 4
- This week’s PFL Challenger Series features the featherweights. In the main event, we have Reinaldo Ekson against Mike Barnett. Ekson is a Pitbull Brothers-trained fighter who has won his last three fights in a row heading into his PFL debut. He has been a pro since 2012 and has fought for the EFC Africa promotion, though his level of competition up to this point has been very weak. As for Barnett, he’s been a pro since 2016, fighting for many of the top regional shows in the United States, including LFA. He has a lot of knockouts on his resume, and it goes without saying that Barnett will be going for the knockout here. Still, it appears that Ekson has a big advantage in the grappling department, and it makes sense he’s favored.
- The co-main event sees Edwin Cooper Jr. against Troy Lamson. Cooper Jr. is a Team Jackson-Wink member who is 5-1 as a pro. His last four fights have come in LFA, and he’s won his last three. As for Lamson, he has been a pro since 2014 and has fought for a number of regional shows, including King of the Cage and BTC. Lamson does have more experience but he Cooper Jr. likely has more upside. If this fight goes to the ground, there is definitely a chance that Cooper Jr. could sub him, so that would be my slight lean for this matchup.
