Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 45 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 45 features a five-round heavyweight fight between Chris Daukaus and Derrick Lewis. Daukaus has been on a roll ever since joining the UFC last year as he is 4-0 in the Octagon with four wins coming by way of knockout. As for Lewis, he is coming off of a knockout loss to interim champ Ciryl Gane, but he knocked out Curtis Blaydes in his fight before that. Both Daukaus and Lewis are huge punchers and it seems incredibly unlikely that this fight lasts for longer than a round or two. Although Lewis has a puncher’s chance, Daukaus does seem like the more technical striker and deserves to be favored here.
- The co-main event features top-10 ranked welterweights Stephen Thompson and Belal Muhammad going at it. Thompson is coming off of a decision loss to Gilbert Burns, while Muhammad is coming off of a decision win over Demian Maia. This should be a competitive fight between two solid welterweights, but Thompson is the superior striker. If he can keep this fight on the feet, then he should be able to outpoint the durable Muhammad to win a decision.
