Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 269 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC 269 is a lightweight title bout between champion Charles Oliveira and challenger Dustin Poirier. This is one of those rare times in the UFC where the challenger is the betting favorite, as Oliveira enters this fight as the underdog. Considering how much hype there is right now behind Poirier after beating Conor McGregor twice, this makes sense. That being said, Oliveira is on a long win streak right now and it is hard to bet against him. Given Poirier has the boxing and the power advantage, the oddsmakers are leaning towards him getting the job done. But with Oliveira having multiple paths to victory on both the feet and on the ground, you can’t count him out of winning this fight. Based on the odds, it is dog or pass.
  • The co-main event, on the other hand, seems to be pretty clear-cut. Nunes is one of the best women’s fighters in the sport and she has been utterly dominant for the past seven years. Pena, meanwhile, is talented but super inconsistent. Unless Pena can smother Nunes for five rounds, it seems hard to see her winning this fight against the always-dangerous Nunes.
