Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 272:
- The main event of Bellator 272 sees Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis put his 135lbs strap on the line against former champ Kyoji Horiguchi, who is returning to Bellator after two years away. The last time we saw Horiguchi in Bellator, he beat Darrion Caldwell for the title in June 2019. After that, he got knocked out by Kai Asakura in RIZIN and then took a year off before returning and knocking out Asakura in the rematch last December. He now returns to Bellator in an effort to reclaim his bantamweight strap. Currently holding the Bellator 135lbs title is Pettis, who has won four straight fights himself. In his last fight, Pettis defeated Juan Archuleta to win the title. This looks like it should be a very competitive fight between two of the sport’s top bantamweights, but Horiguchi deserves to be slightly favored in this one.
- The co-main event is a featherweight bout between Emmanuel Sanchez and Jeremy Kennedy. Sanchez is coming off of back-to-back losses to Mads Burnell and Patricio Pitbull, while Kennedy is coming off of a decision loss to Adam Borics. This also looks like a competitive fight, but Kennedy might just have the grappling skills needed in order to pull off the upset.
