Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 268 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 268 is a title fight rematch between UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and challenger Colby Covington. These two previously met in December 2019 at UFC 245, with Usman winning the fight via fifth-round TKO. Two years later and they are set to meet once again. Since that first meeting, Usman has won three fights over Jorge Masvidal twice and once over Gilbert Burns, while Covington beat Tyron Woodley. To me, Usman has been far more impressive since the first time they met and he deserves to be the clear favorite here. That being said, Covington is an excellent fighter himself and should make it competitive.
- The co-main event is also a rematch as UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas takes on Weili Zhang. These two met back at UFC 261 in April, with Namajunas landing a head kick KO on Zhang to capture the belt. Surprisingly, the UFC gave Zhang the rematch when she doesn’t deserve it over Carla Esparza. Zhang is a great fighter to be sure, but it seems ridiculous that she didn’t have to at least get one more win after getting knocked out in the first round. The odds for this rematch opened as a Pick ’em, which is interesting because Namajunas won the first fight as a +200 underdog. Since opening, the money has been coming in on both fighters, but it appears Zhang is the slight favorite during fight week.
