Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for LFA 116:
- The main event of LFA 116 is a middleweight bout between Josh Fremd and Renato Valente. Fremd was on the fast track to the UFC but he was knocked out by Gregory Rodrigues and lost his chance to join the big show. However, if he is able to score another big win over Valente here, it’s possible that Fremd could get another shot in the big show. Prior to the loss to Rodrigues, Fremd had won five straight fights, including four by stoppage. As for Valente, he is an LFA and Bellator veteran who has won three of his last four fights. Valente has quite a bit of experience but Fremd does appear to have the higher upside despite being knocked out in his last fight. Despite that loss, I’m not surprised to see Fremd as the clear favorite here.
- As for the co-main event, Daniel Argueta takes on Rodney Mondala in a bantamweight bout. Unbeaten as a pro at 5-0, Argueta was on The Ultimate Fighter 29 but lost to Ricky Turcios on the show. Considering Turcios eventually won TUF, that is not a bad loss by any means. As for Mondala, he is a Hawaiian fighter who is coming off of a win, but it was back in 2019. You’d have to imagine that Argueta wins this fight and it’s no surprise to see him as a big favorite.
