Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 37 Opening Odds:
- The main event features Anthony Smith returning to the cage against Ryan Spann in a battle of top-15 light heavyweights. Smith is coming off of back-to-back wins over Devin Clark and Jimmy Crute, finishing his opponents in both of those fights. As for Spann, he is coming off of a knockout win over Misha Cirkunov. Overall, he has won nine of his last 10 fights. This should be a competitive fight but the oddsmakers opened up Smith as a small favorite here, which makes sense given his UFC experience. That being said, Smith is certainly a live dog.
- In the co-main event, it’s a battle of light heavyweights as Ion Cutelaba takes on Devin Clark. Cutelaba is coming off of a draw against Dustin Jacoby where he found success early on with his power and takedowns, but he faded as the fight went on. Overall, he is winless in his last four fights. As for Clark, he is coming off of a submission loss to Anthony Smith, but he had won two straight fights prior to that. Overall, it’s a close fight that opened as a Pick ’em.
