Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 37:
- The main event is a light heavyweight bout between Azamat Murzakanov and Matheus Scheffel. Murzakanov is unbeaten with a 9-0 record as a professional MMA fighter and he enters the UFC following a string of dominant wins in promotions such as Brave CF and ACB. It is worth noting that Murzakanov has been a pro since way back in 2010, but he has had numerous layoffs during his career which has kept his number of pro fights low. As for Scheffel, he has been a pro since 2012 and has fought a number of UFC fighters throughout his career. Scheffel enters this fight on a two-fight win streak so he has some momentum, but going up against an undefeated fighter like Murzakanov sees Scheffel open as the underdog.
- Also on the card is a featherweight bout between Joanderson Brito and Diego Lopes. Brito has won nine straight fights and he is coming off of a KO win over Jose Mariscal in LFA, though that fight took place in May 2019. As for Lopes, he is riding a seven-fight win streak that includes wins over several UFC veterans such as Rony Jason, Marco Beltran, and Masio Fullen. Both Brito and Lopes are only 26 years old so this should be a fantastic fight between two prospects on the rise, with the winner likely to land a contract with the UFC.
