Here are my quick thoughts on the PFL 2021: Week 7 Opening Odds:
- The main event of PFL 2021: Week 7 features a welterweight semifinals matchup between Rory MacDonald and Ray Cooper III. MacDonald came into PFL with huge fanfare and made good on it with a stoppage win over Curtis Millender in his promotional debut, but he dropped a controversial split decision to Gleison Tibau his last time out. While he was able to get away with an off night during the regular season, the playoffs are a different beast, because he needs to win this fight to go to the finals. Cooper III is the defending PFL welterweight champion and he has won both of his fights in PFL in 2021. MacDonald is the more proven fighter and the bigger name so he was always going to be the betting favorite here, but Cooper is an excellent fighter in his own right and you shouldn’t count him out of winning this matchup.
- The other big fight at 170lbs features the winner of the first PFL welterweight tournament Magomed Magomedkerimov against replacement fighter Sadibou Sy. Magomedkerimov has won his last 12 fights and has beaten the likes of Cooper III during that stretch. He’s a monster favorite here and it seems justified given that Sy is just 1-1-1, 1 NC over his last four fights.
- Also taking place on this card is the semifinals in the PFL men’s lightweight division.
