Here are my quick thoughts on the PFL 2021: Week 9 Opening Odds:
- The main event of PFL 9 features featherweight contenders Movlid Khaybulaev vs. Brendan Loughnane in a semifinal matchup. Khaybulaev is technically undefeated with a 17-0-1, 1 NC record, though it is worth noting he did lose via TKO to Daniel Pineda two years ago before it was overturned to a No Contest. Still, there’s a reason why this fighter is nicknamed “Killer,” and that’s because more often than not he is the man on the right side of the victory. In this semifinal bout, Khaybulaev will take on former UFC fighter Brendan Loughnane, who has won his last seven fights in a row. While I agree that Khaybulaev should be favored due to his unbeaten record, Loughnane is also a stud, and this could be a dog-or-pass situation.
- The co-main event is the other PFL featherweight semifinal between Chris Wade and Bubba Jenkins. Wade, another former UFC talent, has won both of his PFL fights this season, while Jenkins also won both of his fights in PFL, including a huge upset over defending champion Lance Palmer. Again, while I see while Jenkins opened as the favorite, I view Wade as a very underrated fighter and this looks like to me it’s a dog-or-pass situation, as well.
- Also featured on this card are the light heavyweight semifinal bouts.
