Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Cage Warriors 126:
- The main event of Cage Warriors 126: California is a middleweight bout between UFC veteran Kyle Stewart and former TUF competitor John Poppie. Stewart fought in the UFC in 2019 and lost both of his fights in the world’s leading MMA promotion to Erik Koch and Chance Rencountre. Since leaving the UFC, Stewart is 2-1, with knockout wins over Tim Caron and Mike Johnes and a knockout loss to Chris Curtis. As for Poppie, he fought on TUF back in 2013 and didn’t make it to the UFC after losing on the show. Poppie has a ton of experience fighting UFC fighters but for the most part, he has lost when he has stepped up in competition. He is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, including a victory over Bellator’s Travis Davis in his last fight. While the odds seem steep for Stewart, he should be able to win this fight.
- The other noteworthy fight on this card features former UFC fighter Max Rohskopf against Jeff Creighton. If you remember Rohskopf, he retired on the stool against Austin Hubbard in his UFC debut last year and was immediately cut by the promotion after one fight. After taking a year off, he now returns here against Creighton and he is a massive betting favorite. Creighton comes into this fight on a four-fight winning streak, but the oddsmakers believe this is going to be a wash for Rohskopf, though it’s worth noting the odds have lessened since opening.
