Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 31 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 31 features top-15 ranked lightweights Islam Makhachev and Thiago Moises going against each other. Makhachev is 8-1 overall in the UFC and is coming off of a dominant win over Drew Dober in his last fight, winning by submission. The Russian is considered by many fans and media to be a potential future world champion in the vein of his good friend, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. In this fight, Makhachev is a significant favorite over his opponent Thiago Moises, who is 4-2 overall in the UFC and coming off of three straight wins himself. Moises started his career as primarily a grappler but he has really improved his striking as of late training at ATT. Makhachev deserves to be the favorite in this fight, but perhaps the inflated line isn’t giving Moises enough respect.
- The co-main event sees the return of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate, who is fighting again for the first time since 2016. She takes on Marion Reneau, who is 44 years old and coming off of four straight losses herself. Reneau is the oldest fighter on the UFC roster and it appears as though the promotion hand-picked her for Tate to beat. Although Reneau opened as the betting favorite, the line has quickly flipped and now Tate is favored.
