Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 258:
- The main event of Bellator 258 features Juan Archuleta (25-2) against Sergio Pettis (20-5). Archuleta is coming off of back-to-back wins over Patchy Mix and Henry Corrales and his only loss since 2015 has gone against Patricio Pitbull at 145lbs. At 135lbs, Archuleta is easily one of the best in the world and he’s shown that for several years now in Bellator. That being said, he has a tough test here in the form of Pettis, who is riding a three-fight win streak into this bout with back-to-back wins over Ricky Bandejas and Alfred Khashakyan. Pettis matches up well with Archuleta and this should be a close fight, but Archuleta opened as a small favorite.
- The co-main event for Bellator 258 features the return of Anthony Johnson (22-6) and Jose Augusto Azevedo (7-2). Credit to Azevedo for stepping up on short notice when Yoel Romero fell off the card, but this is obviously going to be a very hard fight for him. Although Johnson hasn’t fought since 2017, he has been training at Sanford MMA and getting into amazing shape and he should be ready to go for this one. As for Azevedo, he is coming off of a submission win over Jonathan Wilson and has won five straight fights in a row. I’d like to see he’s a live dog here but given how good Johnson looks in training, he has to be favored here.
