Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for LFA 103:

  • The main event of LFA 103 features former UFC fighter Spike Carlyle (9-3) return to action against Batsumberel Dagvadorj (7-1). Carlyle was a very weird cut by the UFC as I believe he is good enough to compete in the Octagon. After knocking out Aalon Cruz in his UFC debut in February 2020, Carlyle dropped back-to-back decisions to two very tough opponents in Bill Algeo and Billy Quarantillo. He now returns to his old stomping grounds at LFA, where he previously competed in 2019 and picked up a spinning back fist KO win. Prior to the losses in the UFC, Carlyle was on a five-fight win streak. He’ll look to bounce back here against Dagvadorj, who is also coming off of a loss. In fact, Dagvadorj’s first career loss came to Maycon Mendonça in his last fight. That snapped his undefeated start to his career, which included a win over Strikeforce veteran James Terry in Bellator. I was surprised that Dagvadorj lost his last fight but perhaps it’s a sign that at 33 years old he’s not the prospect some of us though. The oddsmakers agreed, and they opened the 27-year-old Carlyle as a huge favorite here in the LFA 103 main event. The odds have swung closer to even now, as money has been coming in on Dagvadorj. But if I had to make a pick in this fight, I would choose Carlyle.
  • Another fight that’s worth watching sees women’s strawweight prospect Vanessa Demopoulos (5-3) taking on Cynthia Arceo (5-2-1). Demopoulos is coming off back-to-back losses to Cory McKenna and Lupita Gonzalez which snapped a four-fight win streak for her. I’m surprised how badly she’s struggled in her last couple of fights because I thought she was destined for the UFC. I still think Demopoulos can bounce back, but she does have an interesting matchup here against Arceo. Though Arceo is coming off of a loss in her last fight, it came against current UFC fighter Mallory Martin in Invicta FC. I just wish she didn’t have a two-year layoff coming into this fight. The oddsmakers pegged Demopoulos as a big opening favorite here.
  • Another fight to keep your eye on features Josh Quinlan (4-0) against Dallas Jennings (3-1) at welterweight. Quinlan is coming off of back-to-back knockout wins in LFA while showing off some big-time finishing power in those fights. As for Jennings, he’s a Shamrock FC veteran who is coming off of a knockout win, but he has also had a long layoff. Quinlan opened as a short favorite here but has been getting bet up and is now the clear betting favorite in this fight.
