Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for LFA 101:

  • LFA is back with an awesome card featuring mostly undefeated prospects. If you are someone who wants to keep your eye on some potential future UFC fighters, this is the card to do so.
  • Let’s talk about these fights. Starting with the welterweights, we have Treston Vines and Jalin Fuller in a matchup between two 4-0 fighters. Vines is a 24-year-old Alabama native who went 10-2 as an amateur before turning pro in 2019. Since then, he has won all four of his pro fights via TKO. As for Fuller, he’s a New Mexico native who turned pro in 2019 and has since won all four of his fights, including three fights in LFA alone. The odds are close for this fight, and for good reason as they both look like solid welterweight prospects with an identical record.
  • At women’s strawweight, we have Jaqueline Amorim vs. Taisha Gandy. Amorim turned pro late last year and has already picked up two wins via first-round submission. Gandy, meanwhile, is making her pro debut. Amorim is one of the biggest favorites on the card due to her dangerous submission game, but Gandy might be able to put up a better fight than the odds imply here.
  • At 205lbs, we have Anthony Kalani against Tee Cummins. Kalani is 5-0, while Cummins is 2-0. Kalani made his pro debut in 2018 and has already reeled off five straight wins, including four by stoppage. As for Cummins, the 28-year-old Tennesse native turned pro in 2019 and won his first two MMA fights before picking up back-to-back wins in bare-knuckle fighting in his last two outings. He also went 5-3 as an amateur before turning pro. Just based on the fact we haven’t seen Kalani lose yet, he opened up as a decent-sized favorite here to get the win.
  • At lightweight, we have Miguel Jacob against AJ Nichols. Jacob is a 23-year-old fighter out of KIngs MMA who is 4-0 since turning pro in 2017. In his last outing, he picked up a decision win in Bellator, though he hasn’t fought since January 2020. His opponent Nichols, it’s worth noting, is not undefeated, having a 6-2-1 record overall. However, he has plenty of experience fighting in LFA, having joined the promotion back in 2017 and coming into this fight having won three of his last four fights overall. However, he hasn’t fought since November 2019, so he is coming into this fight off of a pretty long layoff. Jacob seems like a really good prospect and the oddsmakers opened the undefeated fighter as a sizeable favorite to defeat Nichols here.
