Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 35:
- At middleweight, we have Sousa (11-1) and Ksiazkiewicz going (8-0) at it in a fight that opened as Pick ’em. The 24-year-old Brazilian Sousa rides into this fight on a four-fight winning skid. Looking through his record, many of his wins have gone by submission. As for Ksiazkiewicz, the 31-year-old Canadian is undefeated heading into the biggest fight of his life. He, too, has won the majority of his fights by submission. This is a really close fight made tougher to pick with both coming off of a year-long layoff. My slight lean is Ksiazkewicz, but it’s close.
- At bantamweight, Sabatello (8-1) takes on Moore (10-4). The 27-year-old American Sabatello has finished seven of his eight wins and come into the Contender Series on a two-fight win streak. As for Moore, the 27-year-old American comes into DWCS on a three-fight win streak. However, he has lost four times in his young career. Sabatello opened as a short favorite and has now been bet up to -500. I am picking Sabatello but the betting line looks too long now.
- At women’s strawweight, we have Pineiro (7-1) against Frausto (8-6). The 26-year-old Brazilian Pineiro has won her last five fights by stoppage heading into her DWCS debut. As for Frausto, the sister of Zoila Frausto rides into this fight on a three-fight win streak. Frausto has a lot of experience against notable fighters, but her poor 8-6 record makes her difficult to trust. Although Frausto has the tools to pull it off, I have to go with Pinheiro to get the finish here.
- At lightweight, Motta (11-3) fight Lowry (9-1). The 27-year-old Brazilian Motta makes his DWCS debut having won four of his last five fights. A former TUF contestant, Motta has plenty of KO power and even a knockout win over current UFC fighter Joe Solecki. As for Lowry, the 30-year-old American has competed on DWCS before, losing by knockout to Devonte Smith in 2018. He picked up another knockout win since then to get invited back on the show. Lowry is being undervalued in this spot in my opinion as I believe he is a live dog here given his power.
- And finally, at a catchweight of 160lbs we have Levy (5-0) against Santana (6-0). The 29-year-old American Levy has won all five of his pro fights and is taking this fight on short notice. His opponent, the 29-year-old Santana, has won five of his six pro fights by submission and has fought for shows such as Titan FC. This should be a fun fight but given the short notice factor going against him here, I would slightly lean towards Santana to get his hand raised.
