Here are my initial thoughts on the UFC on ESPN+ 39 Opening Odds:
- The main event is a fight that fans have wanted to see for many years as two of the more dangerous strikers in the UFC middleweight division meet as Hall takes on Silva in what is the final fight of the legendary career of “The Spider.” Hall has looked sharp as of late, as he’s coming off of back-to-back wins over Antonio Carlos Junior and Bevon Lewis. At age 36, Hall is one of the older fighters in the UFC middleweight division, but he’s far younger than the 45-year-old Silva, who hasn’t fought since a leg injury TKO loss to Jared Cannonier in May 2019. Silva has lost his last three fights in a row and he has gone 1-6, 1 NC over his last eight fights overall. He is one of the greatest fighters of all time, but not anymore. Hall is inconsistent but Silva is an auto-fade at his age and considering how much damage he’s taken in his career.
- The co-main event is a fun featherweight fight as the undefeated Mitchell takes on Fili. Mitchell is a perfect 13-0 in his MMA career with a 4-0 mark in the UFC, and he’s one of the few UFC fighters who can say he has a submission win via twister. Fili is a veteran of the Octagon at this point and is coming off of a decision win over Charles Jourdain and three wins in his last four fights overall. The oddsmakers opened this fight as a Pick ’em as it’s a close one to call.
- Another intriguing fight features Holland against Muradov in a fight between two up-and-comers at 185lbs. Holland has been extremely active as of late, winning his last three fights since the coronavirus pandemic began and six of his last seven overall. As for Muradov, he’s riding a 13-fight win streak and is 2-0 so far in the UFC. Both guys are really well-rounded middleweights and the oddsmakers opened the fight close to a Pick ’em for a reason.
- I’m also intrigued by the lightweight bout between Green and Moises. Like Holland, Green has taken advantage of the coronavirus pandemic by staying busy, going 3-0 in 2020 alone. Moises is coming off of a submission win over Michael Johnson, but overall he has been inconsistent in the UFC so far. You have to favor Green to win this fight by quite a wide margin.
