And here are my initial thoughts on the UFC Fight Night 155 Opening Odds:
- The main event between Ladd and de Randamie could very well see the winner get a title shot against UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. Ladd is just 24-years old and has already racked up a perfect 8-0 MMA record and is 3-0 in the UFC. She looks like she has future champion potential but needs to get by GDR here in order to prove she’s an elite fighter at 135lbs. De Randamie is 5-1 overall in the UFC and has only lost once, to Nunes back in 2013. She is the more experienced fighter in this matchup, not to mention the superior striker. Though GDR is 35-years old, she still looks like she has plenty of gas left in the tank. Ladd will want to get this fight to the ground but de Randamie has excellent takedown defense. This is a tough fight to call but given Ladd’s age advantage you have to slightly lean towards her here.
- The co-main event features a bantamweight bout between rising prospect Simon and the legend Faber. The 26-year-old Simon is riding an eight-fight win streak including three straight wins in the UFC. He takes on Faber, who is 40-years old now and coming off of a three-year layoff. Faber is fighting in his hometown of Sacramento which should give him a boost, but considering his age and layoff I can’t pick him here. I lean towards the favorite Simon here.
- Maybe the most interesting fight on the card is a featherweight bout between Emmett and Bektic. Emmett is coming off of a huge KO win over Michael Johnson, while Bektic is coming off of back-to-back wins after his shocking KO loss to Darren Elkins in 2017. Another close fight, but considering Emmett’s power I tend to lean towards him a bit here.
- An intriguing middleweight bout sees Vettori take on Ferreira. I have to admit I’m a bit surprised by the odds. Vettori had a close fight with Israel Adesanya and that’s likely why he’s getting so much respect here, but Ferreira is far more experienced and still has that excellent grappling background. This is a close fight, but given Vettori’s age advantage you can see why he’s favored here.
- Finally, an intriguing women’s bantamweight bout sees Montano return against Pena. Neither fighter has fought in a couple years, but Pena is much more proven at 135lbs. I’m not convinced Montano is going to be big enough to compete with the top contenders at bantamweight, and I lean towards Pena.
