Combate Americas recently held its 42nd event in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on Friday. Here are the betting results of the fights, as explained by MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas.

In the main event for the bantamweight title, Gustavo Lopez opened -500 with Joey Ruquet +350. Lopez scored one of the most exciting and devastating knockouts in Combate history, just 1:45 into the first round. Lopez closed -432 with the comeback on Ruquet +312 with the betting public coming in a little more on the dog, so the sportsbooks took a small profit.

In the co-main event for the vacant featherweight title, Jose Quintana opened a huge -600 favorite with the comeback on Bruno Cannetti at +400. The betting public along with some sharp action including our very own Pig Lord, came in on the underdog, closing Quintana at -360 with Cannetti closing +263. Cannetti took round one with damage from his low kicks. Quintana fired back in round two, showing more life and turning the tide of the fight, but in the third round Cannetti utilized an early takedown, which helped him take a decision as a hefty underdog. The sportsbooks took a heavy loss on this fight.

Lightweight Erick Sanchez opened -325 and closed -367, with the betting public putting him in parlays and pushing his line up. Jose Luis Verdugo opened +235 and closed +271. It was a competitive fight, but Verdugo did serious damage with low kicks and was able to win every round. The sportsbooks made a decent profit in this fight.

In middleweight action, Cole Jordan opened a -155 favorite and the line dropped to -134. The bout was an all out slugfest and one of the most entertaining on the card. Jordan had a serious cut and the doctor stopped the bout in between the second and third rounds, giving the victory to JJ Torres, who opened +115 and closed +108. The betting public won small here.

In a welterweight contest, Owen Craugh opened -165 with the comeback on Aaron Armijo +125. The lines tightened up, closing at -152 and +122 respectively. Armijo had no answer for Craugh’s top position and ground and pound, which forced a first round TKO at the midway point of the first round. The sportsbooks made a small profit, just barely beating break even.

In a 117 pound catchweight fight Felisha Magallan opened -300 with the comeback on Lupita Godinez +220. Magallan dropped down to a -204 favorite by the time lines closed, with Godinez closing +159. The bout competitive, with Godinez and Magallan splitting the first two rounds, but Godinez nearly finished the fight in the closing seconds of the third round, which was enough to hand her the round and the decision. The sportsbooks took a decent loss with the underdog winning in this bout and action coming in on the dog.

Overall, it was a profitable evening for sports bettors for Combate Americas 42. The next Combate event is September 20 in Mexicali, Mexico, with the lightweight title on the line.
