UFC on ESPN 3 took place Saturday, June 29, 2019 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The card was headlined by a top five heavyweight bout between Junior dos Santos and Francis Ngannou.

In the main event, Francis Ngannou added Junior dos Santos to his list of finishes as he wobbled the Brazilian one minute into the bout and followed up with big shots on the mat to earn a major victory and set him up as the next in line for the heavyweight title. Ngannou closed -220 with the return on dos Santos +180

Joseph Benavidez landed a flurry of punches against the cage to force the referee to step in and halt his bout in the second round with Jussier Formiga. For Benavidez, it puts him in the driver’s seat to earn the next title shot at flyweight against champion Henry Cejudo. Benavidez closed -125 while Formiga closed +106

Demian Maia was able to take Tony Martin to the mat in the first rounds. Despite struggling in round three, he walked away with a clear decision victory. Maia closed -185 while Martin closed +160

Drew Dober earned the fastest knockout of his career as he put away Marco Polo Reyes in just 77 seconds of the opening round. Dober has now won four of his last five fights. Dober closed -417 with the return on Reyes +322

Alonzo Menifield blasted Paul Craig with a right hook and then went on to follow up with some brutal punches on the ground to put away Craig in the opening round. Menifield closed -370 while Craig closed +304

Ricardo Ramos nearly knocked out Journey Newsom in the third round with a spinning elbow to highlight a unanimous decision victory. Ramos closed -345 with Newsom closing +278

Eryk Anders floored Vinicius Moreira to earn a first-round victory as well as a performance of the night bonus. Anders closed -313 while Moreira closed +244

Jared Gordon out worked Dan Moret to earn a hard-fought decision victory to end a two-fight losing streak. Gordon closed -333. Moret closed +262

Dalcha Lungiambula was ferocious in his UFC debut landing brutal ground and pound to finish Dequan Thompson in the third round. Lungiambula closed -469 with the return on Thompson +346

Maurice Greene utilized his length well landing from the outside. It didn’t take him long to drop Junior Albini and finish with strikes on the ground to earn a first-round victory. Greene closed -123 while Albini closed +102

 

Underdogs that Won

After a difficult opening round, Vinc Pichel imposed his strength on Roosevelt Roberts taking him to the mat in the final two periods to earn a hard-fought decision and ending Roberts unbeaten run to start his career. Pichel closed +220 while Roberts closed -256

Despite not fighting since May 2016, Amanda Ribas had little problem with Emily Whitmire as she submitted the American in the second round for a victory in her UFC debut. Ribas closed +157 with the return on Whitmire -189
