Combate Americas recently held its 48th event in Garland, Texas on Friday. Here are the betting results of the fights, as explained by MMA oddsmaker Nick Kalikas.

Angelo Trevino opened -220 and closed -130
Gilbert Urbina opened +170 and closed +110

A line entry error caused bets to come in on Urbina, but by the time the fight closed, action came in on Urbina. The books took a bit of a beating on this fight when Urbina repeatedly scored takedowns and took Trevino’s back. Trevino had a few moments, but he couldn’t deal with Urbina’s length and grappling en route to losing a decision.

Paola Ramirez opened +165 and closed +175
Abril Anguiano opened -210 and closed -210

I thought this was a dog or pass situation against the debuting Anguiano, who edged out a close split decision. There was two-way action so this fight, the sportsbooks broke even.

Hector Fajardo opened -210 and closed -180
Aaron Vickers opened +165 and closed +150

Vickers had a few moments, but Fajardo did enough to win all three rounds. This was another fight with two-way action with the lines tightening up. The sportsbooks profited small here.

Angel Luis Cruz opened +140 and closed +145
Ariel Juarez opened -170 and closed -170

I was surprised in this one as Cruz scored a quick Americana submission inside the first minute. The sportsbooks won tiny again here with very slight action coming in on Juarez.

Kyle Driscoll opened -275 and closed -540
Rey Trujillo opened +205 and closed +395

Bettors pounded Driscoll’s line all the way up to -540. Trujillo is tough, but Driscoll made the bettors look smart as Driscoll soundly defeated him, winning multiple convincing rounds en route to a one-sided unanimous decision victory. The public won pretty decent in this fight as the sportsbooks took a hit with the one-sided action.

Victor Reyna opened -300 and closed -230
Nick Gay opened +220 and closed +195

Everyone was betting Gay, dropping his original line. Reyna outpaced Gay, outwrestled him and survived a scary sub attempt to win a clear decision. The sportsbooks made a profit here.

Melvin Lopez opened -475 and closed -540
Aldair Romero opened +325 and closed +395

Lopez was the superior wrestler and did what many expected him to do, taking this fight to the ground and dominating his way to a decision. The sportsbooks were prepared for all the Lopez action and moved their lines accordingly, winning decent on this fight.

Overall, the sportsbooks probably lost some money on this event and the public came out ahead for Combate Americas 48. The next Combate event is November 8 in San Antonio, Texas.
