Current Odds:
Devin Haney: (-170)
George Kambosos: (+140)
In one of the more shocking upsets of 2021 George Kambosos was able to capitalize on an emotional Teofimo Lopez who was riding a wave of confidence and cockiness to capture three of the four major titles (IBF, WBO [super], WBO) at lightweight including The Ring championship. Now returning from the biggest win of his career in November Kambosos meets one of the brightest young stars in boxing – the WBC champion Devin Haney in a unification bout for all of the championships at lightweight.
This will no doubt be the toughest fight for Haney as Kambosos is his best opponent to date. We have already seen the toughness and grit from Kambosos in his split-decision win over Lopez last year so we know how far he will go to secure a victory. While there has been plenty of back and forth exchanges between both men Haney is much more aware of what Kambosos is trying to do and I believe will be able to keep his composure in check during the fight. Something Teofimo Lopez was unable to do and was part of the reason he was dropped in the first round. Kambosos will come out like the aggressor he is and put the pressure and volume on Haney. That should be a given with him having the power advantage. Haney being the better technical boxer and very aware of his surroundings should be able to circle around, avoid the power and dangerous exchanges, and start to pick apart Kambosos the longer the fight goes. I doubt we see Haney put himself in any hazardous situations so I would assume he plays this fight safe against the wild and powerful puncher Kambosos. A Devin Haney victory by decision here to become the unified WBC, IBF, WBO (super), WBA, and The Ring lightweight champion is something I can surely see happening down in Australia on Saturday evening.
Prop: Devin Haney Wins By Decision (+100)
