Pick: Brian Castano Moneyline (+160)
Prop: Brian Castano Wins By Decision (+300)
The first fight was very close but fans and media were in agreement that Castano should have got the nod on the night of July 17, 2021. Nearly a year later they finally rematch in Carson, California.
I have to pick Castano here and it is not that I am straight up picking him to beat Jermell Charlo but, the value on his moneyline and his prop to win by decision is simply way too good to pass on. Their first fight was very close and I thought Castano should have got the nod and this is coming from a big fan of both the Charlo brothers. Jermell Charlo simply let Castano dictate the fight and get off combinations on Charlo against the ropes way too often. Charlo had his moments here and there and even hurt Castano on occasion but it was Castano who I felt was edging majority of the rounds yet it was a draw on the scorecards.
Jermell has avenged a loss before against Tony Harrison but he let Harrison find his groove and use pressure early on to get ahead on the scorecards before Charlo hurt him and finished him in the eleventh round. It was very possible Charlo would have lost again on the scorecards to Harrison if it was not for the knockout finish to reclaim his title. Charlo’s achilles heel seems to come from great pressure fighters who can avoid his power while using volume to outpoint him in rounds. I think the younger brother can definitely win this fight but he will need to have a gameplan of not letting Castano get the hot start early on. But in a very close contested matchup between two elite junior middleweights I have no problem taking the dog who has a great probability of winning by decision.
