Easily the biggest women’s fight in boxing will headline the evening of April 30th from the world’s most famous arena Madison Square Garden as two of the very best Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano look to make history.
Current Betting Odds:
Oscar Valdez: +500
Shakur Stevenson: -800
WBO super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson at just 24 years of age has already shown an enormous amount of talent potential and it shines more and more each and every time he steps inside the ropes. The 2016 Olympic Medalist Stevenson is one of the four pillars of the future of boxing along with Tank Davis, Devin Haney, and Ryan Garcia. We could see any of these guys fight down the line but for now they are building their own destiny.
WBC champion Oscar Valdez recently squeaked by with a close decision win over Robson Conceicao. But do not let that fool you as he packs great power such as his incredible knockout over Miguel Berchelt in February of 2021. While Stevenson is still young and continuously getting better every fight, we know just what we are getting with Valdez – power, chin, grit, and aggression with plenty of fights under his belt at just 31 years of age.
Stevenson is a comfortable favorite and it is no knock to the talent of Valdez but rather the emerging star in the 24 year old. His flawless win and finish over Jamel Herring to win the WBO championship really showed that Stevenson has arrived on the scene and has truly begun his rise to the best in boxing. Stevenson could potentially finish Valdez but with undefeated records and a unification title matchup on the line he would much rather play it safe here and pick his opponent apart. Valdez will need to throw some caution into the wind eventually if he starts falling behind in points and losing rounds but, that will just have Stevenson circling around more and landing his jab at will.
My prediction and prop bet is Shakur Stevenson by decision (-185) to win and unify the WBO, WBC, and The Ring championships.
